I
n
the organisational structure,
the COO is subordinated to the
CEO (Chief Executive Officer)
with attributes that are more
hands-on than those of the CEO,
but there is constant feedback
between the two positions.
Having to manage a company’s daily
activity is not an easy task, so the
range of responsibilities a COO must
undertake is wide. Liow may have
had many years of experience in the
airline industry, but with his passion
for aviation and people, this is a
career that will continue to soar to
new heights.
What is required inyour lineofwork?
In order to take on this job, I need to
have a very intimate knowledge of
airline operations and a high level of
experience as it is a much specialised
field. I manage many aspects of
the airlines such as engineering,
f l ight operat ions and ground
operations. In order for the airline
to function, I have to put all these
elements together for operations
to run smoothly and safely on a
daily basis. Having the right people
skills is also important as I have to
control a large workforce of about
800 individuals – engineers, pilots,
cabin crew members and on-ground
staff.
