Lipe, the southernmost
Thai island in the picture-per-
fect Andaman Sea, is 60km
from Langkawi and easily
accessed via high-speed ferry,
which I explored. Onboard
the one-hour crossing on the
Bundhaya Speedboat, all the cares I carried from
the city were blown away by the sea breeze. As
I disembarked onto Pattaya Beach and the hot,
sugary sand crept between my toes, I felt light
years away, despite leaving the metropolis of
Kuala Lumpur only a few hours earlier.
After Phuket and Koh Samui, Koh Lipe
had become the Thai island that is the talk
of the town and it was not difficult for me to
see why. Unspoilt by high-rise buildings and
not overly commercialised, it has a timeless
feel that rejuvenated me, the city-dweller. The
