Tea Party
Fit for a Queen
Elegance,
style, luxury and relaxation
are all synonymous with the very English
tradition of afternoon tea and there is no
better place to partake in this genteel cus-
tom than at the Tea Lounge inMajestic Ho-
tel. The Tea Lounge features old-fashioned
grid ceilings with classic cut-glass lighting
and antique brass fittings, with a cosy
array of plush sofas and comfortable arm
chairs where one could sit back and enjoy
tea the way royalty would. The subdued
lighting from table lamps provides the
perfect setting for their signature English
Afternoon Tea with a Malaysian twist. I
decided, however, to take my meal closer
to nature in the Orchid Room, which also
serves as the hotel’s orchid conservatory.
My breath was taken away by the
dreamy beauty of the orchidscape, where
natural sunlight poured in through the

glass roof and walls, amidst countless
colourful and stunning blooms of the
Phalaenopsis orchid. As these large-petal
blooms are displayed in a re-creation of
their natural habitat, the temperature of
the Orchid Room is slightly cool, making
me feel as though I was having tea up
in the refreshing climate of Cameron
Highlands.
Afternoon Tea at the Majestic Hotel
starts at just RM48++ per person. Tea
in the Orchid Room is available for small
groups from RM88 per person. Call

Afternoon Tea was
a delightful affair that
started off with delicate
finger-sized sandwiches
with flavours such as
tuna, smoked salmon,
roast beef, and my
favourite, the foie gras
terrine. These were
followed by warm and
buttery classic freshly-
baked scones with fruit
preserves and clotted
cream. The jam and
clotted cream went so
well with the scones, I
couldn’t help but ask
for more.
A unique feature of
the Afternoon Tea was
the inclusion of local
Malay savoury treats,
such as rendang tarts,
fried potato balls and
curry puff. Finally it was
a treat for the eyes and
the sweet tooth with a selection of pretty
cakes and pastries. All these were served
on tiered copper burnished stands, and
accompanying these temptations is a pot
of Majestic Blend tea in a vintage-English
looking teapot.
Basking in the natural light of the
Orchid Roomwhile enjoying the delicious
tea with musical accompaniment by
talented Malaysian music-maker and
resident pianist, Ooi Eow Jin, certainly
made this regal experience one that mum
would remember.
