A Walk in the Park
M
ost
city dwellers are
accustomed to the Kuala
Lumpur Lake Gardens
that was established in
1888 by Alfred Venning,
the then British State
Treasurer to Selangor.
The park had been the former site of a tin mine
and was originally called Public Gardens. It was
later renamed Taman Tasik Perdana, or Perdana
Lake Gardens, and is now officially known as the
Perdana Botanical Gardens.
On any given weekend, families flock here to
have picnics by the lily pond; couples work up a
good sweat around the jogging tracks; children
run helter-skelter on the many playground
structures; and eager dads teach their young
children to dribble a football or hone their
badminton skills.
