authentic flavours of
Kelantan, Capital Nasi
Dagang Kelantan is
the place to be when
craving for the perfect
mix of traditional flavours, homemade
cuisines and perfected recipes handed
down through a generation of talented
foodies. What started off as a small stall
in the small town of Kota Bharu, this
family run business has uprooted from
the depths of the rural and found its place
in Klang Valley some six months ago.
The owners of Capital, Mr and Mrs
Foo, started their business in an area
known by the locals as
tepi sungai
in
Kota Bharu, where
nasi dagang
was
generously served from large traditional
pots and artfully packed in wax paper.
Nowwith four grown children in the city,
they’ve left the comfort of their home and
set up this family venture. “We’re in the
city because this is good food and good
food should be shared with others,” said
Winnie, the eldest of the four children.
“If we don’t bring traditional food like
nasi dagang
here, it will get lost in this
generation,” she added.
Having never tried
nasi dagang
before, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
I’ve been told that the meal is simply the
Kelantanese version of our ever famous
nasi lemak
, but I felt it was so much
more than that. Once we were settled in
our seats, my taste buds were tingling
from the rich aromatic fragrances that
were wafting through the restaurant. The
menu was simple and straightforward,
offering a variety of
lauk
(dishes) to go
with the rice. Since this was my first try, I
decided to go with the traditional serving
of
nasi dagang
with
gulai ikan tongkol
and the delicious-looking beef
rendang
