people travel to escape
the chaotic city life and opt
for beach or glamping holi-
days. For the rest, the silence
can be a little too foreign and
unnerving and a getaway is just an ex-
cuse to break their urban lifestyle routine
in order to experience the fast-paced life
of another city. Hong Kong is a busy city
of eight million inhabitants known for its
modern skyscrapers, happening nightlife
and glorious local food. Overwhelming at
first due to the sea of humanity, this city
has plenty of attractions, good food and
great shopping to entice anyone.
Shopping And Culture
Tsim Sha Tsui is just the place to be for
shopping and sightseeing. Located in
Southern Kowloon, the urban area is
home to high-end shops and restaurants

as well as a number of Hong Kong’s
museums. The ladies will find just what
they are looking for at Tsim Sha Tsui as
there are many makeup and cosmetic
shops located along Granville road and
Harbour City. Not everything is cheap
but it is worth checking out for all the
rare brands that are not readily available
elsewhere.
The Avenue of Stars is very similar to
Hollywood’s Walk of Fame but here it
honours local stars like Bruce Lee, Anita
Mui and a few others who have made
it big in the entertainment industry.
Located along the Victoria’s Harbour
Waterfront, it is currently closed for
repair and improvement works. Fret
not because a selection of the Avenue
of Stars exhibits is currently on display
at Garden of Stars and Starry Gallery.
Take some time to visit at least a
couple of museums located within
close proximity to each other in Tsim
Sha Tsui. They are easily reached and
have very low entry fees, with at least
one free-entry day per week. For science
buffs, Hong Kong Science Museum
and Hong Kong Space Museum are
definitely a must-visit, with interesting
exhibits including a mock-up of a space
shuttle. Other museums include Hong
Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong
Museum of Art and Hong Kong Heritage
Discovery Centre, which is in a Colonial
Era barracks block.
Halal Food? No Problem
In the past, Muslim travellers always had
second thoughts about travelling to Hong
Kong, thanks to the horror stories about
the unending search for halal food. That
may have been the case at one point, but
it is not so anymore. There are actually
plenty of halal restaurants in the city.
