Nothing prepares youmore for a job than an in-house training programme. Youmay
have the qualification but there are often specific skills required by the job that were
not being taught in college. It is Jurina Abdul Karim’s responsibility as an Assistant
Manager Training and Operation Support to conduct these training programs for both
old and new staff at Firefly in order for them to become better skilled and prepared
for their position. Jurina shares with us about the importance of knowledge and her
typical day at work.
Training Wheels
What are your responsibilities as an
Assistant Manager Training and Ops
Support?
My position falls under under the Ground
Operation Department. I assist the Line
and Training Manager for ground staff
training development and planning. I
am also the one who is responsible in
ensuring that all ground staff are all fully
equipped with the knowledge, practical
skills and motivation to carry out work-
related tasks.
Can you tell us a little more about your
background?
Iwas born and raised in SgBuloh,Selangor.
What sort of skills and knowledge is
needed for your position?
As a trainer and facilitator, you must
obtain as much knowledge as possible,
able to master your subject and com-
municate well with your trainee.I believe
that successful training comes from the
combination of knowledge and good
training skills.Naturally, it takes experi-
ence and practice to develop the full
range of training skills to lead continuous
development processes.
What were you doing prior to being
appointed an Assistant Manager Training
and Ops Support?
I started off at Firefly as a Ground Op-
eration officer in March 2008. I was
appointed as Duty Manager and held the
position for almost four years after that.
How much has your previous experience
helped you in your current role?
The experience that I gained gave me an
in-depth knowledge of ground operations,
which has helped a great deal towards
tailoring training programmes.
