for Firefly about his role
in leading the sales team
and all the challenges that
comewith it.
Can you tell us a littlemore about your
background?
I was born and raised in Kuala Selangor. I
have always been fascinated by business,
sales and marketing cultures, which led
me to pursue my studies in the same field
at UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA).
What sort of skills and knowledge is
needed for your position?
Communication and good interpersonal
skills are key in doing sales. Having said
that, knowing the market needs and
demands are an added advantage
What were you doing prior to being
appointed a VP of Sales?
I was part of the team setting up a low
cost carrier in the Middle East for about
two and a half years. Working in a dif-
ferent environment and tough cultures
helped me build a strong character.
Howmuch has your previous experience
helped you in your current role?
I was trained by the best in several
industries. Prior to the airline experience,
I was in the music industry working in an
international record label, Warner Music.
I learned a lot about PR, marketing,
promotion and sales from the most senior
key people in the industry. After that, I
joined Malaysia’s first low cost carrier. I
gained so much aviation knowledge and

of business, regardless
of fields involved. With-
out proper coordination
and the skills required,
it will be difficult for businesses to grow.
The sales department of a company
crunches the numbers and brings in
profits by knowing the market demands
and catering to its needs. For Firefly’s
Vice President of Sales, Muizzuddin
Mahmud, it is a combination of a smart
attitude and hard work.
What are your responsibilities as a VP
of Sales?
I have to direct, design, coordinate and
implement Firefly Sales. I also have to
directly participate in sales exercises
and play a hands-on role in sales fields
servicing of the travel trade; corporate,
organisations, government and students.
In short, to make sure everyone is flying
Firefly for their movement and travel
arrangement
