At Purple Crumbs, we only use the
best ingredients as we do not want to
compromise on taste. If our total cost is
high because of that, so be it. The idea
to make this into a business came about
when friends and family started ordering
from me for parties and festivals. Then
Shan and I met and we instantly clicked!
We started baking together for parties
and friends, and it was a no brainer that
we should go into business together.
What was the biggest challenge
involved in setting up a business?
Time-management. As both of us have
full time jobs, we had to get used to
juggling between our full-time work com-
mitments and Purple Crumbs. Thankfully
we managed to find a balance.
What was themost unexpected aspect
of the process?
The amount of time it took us to set
up the business. For example, it took
us longer than anticipated to set up a
business model that reflects our business
identity and we then had to decide on
details such as costing and pricing. We
also had to carefully choose the types of
ingredients that we were going to use to
ensure that our cakes and cupcakes are
of the highest quality.
Why did you decide to set up the
business?
Shantini Sharon (SS):
Baking has been
my passion since I was young but the
idea to turn this passion into a business
had to take a backseat for quite some
time due to work commitments. After
meeting Jivani, we realised that the both
of us had this deep passion for baking
and that we could synergise and turn our
passion into a fruitful business despite
having full time jobs.
