line with Firefly’s CSR effort
for Sehati Sejiwa Merdeka 2015
programme, a special field trip
was organised at SkyPark Termi-
nal for students of Julia Gabriel
International in August. The early
childhood institution is located in
Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur with a second
centre in Citta Mall, Subang.
The field trip was organised as part of
the school’s educational programme for
the children to visit places and see things
not usually seen in their everyday
environment. The group consisted of
66 children aged between three and
four, 26 teachers and volunteers.
The students took a tour around
the terminal with a visit to the de-
parture hall right after a 20-minute
inflight safety demo conducted by
Firefly’s very own cabin crew. The
educational field trip ended with a
visit to the arrival hall. The looks of
joy on the children’s faces said it all.
A
joint graduation ceremony between
Firefly and Malaysia Airlines Berhad
(MAB) was held recently at the Ma-
laysia Airlines Academy in Kelana
Jaya, Selangor. The proud graduates
consisted of 10 cadet pilots from Firefly
and 15 from Malaysia Airlines along
with 10 Firefly cabin crew members.
Among those in attendance were
management from Firefly and Malaysia
Airlines, including guest of honour -
MAB Chief Operating Officer (COO),
Peter Bellow, together with Firefly Chief
Executive Officer (CEO), Ignatius Ong.
Ong said, “I have no doubt that
this batch of graduates are more than
able to live up to the tasks and high
standards of Firefly.“
The new graduates will join the
ranks of Firefly’s existing pilot and
cabin crew headcounts of 117 and 161,
respectively.
Firefly
held a special educational
programme at the SkyPark Terminal at
Subang, Selangor in September titled
“Careers in Aviation”. The event, a
collaboration between the airline and
Sunway Education Group, hosted 35
exchange students from the University
of Lancaster, United Kingdom. It was
designed to provide an overview of the
airline industry, as well as to give the
students a better understanding of what
to expect should they choose to embark
on a career in the industry.
This was Firefly’s third “Careers in
Aviation” event, with this edition seeing
a majority of the students from the
faculties of business, communications
and fine arts. Firefly CEO Ignatius Ong
was in attendance and he generously
shared his views with the students on
the business, challenges and competi-
tion within the industry.
“We hope to provide a valuable
learning experience to the students, and
give them a better understanding of our
industry, while also inspiring them to
join this exciting and often rewarding
career,” Ong shared.
