is located
on the north west of
France and was the
site of the D-Day Allied
invasion during World
War II. Le Domaine du
Mont was originally
constructed in 1641 by Francoise de la
Haye. At that time, it was more of a manor
rather than a chateau. In 1724, the build-
ing was bought by Etienne d’Ivry and was
renovated, with a chapel being added.
1758 saw the addition of the wings to the
building. The German military occupied
the chateau during World War II but
left after a short period as there was no
running water.
By 1958, the chateau was run down
and was bought over by a Parisian family
and completely restored. The current
owners are Julian Soper, an international
banker, and his wife, Luna de Casanova.
They bought the chateau in 2003 and
have done some major renovations to the
place. Famous people who have stayed
in the chateau include the Aga Khan and
the Dalai Lama.

du Mont of Normandy
The chateau consists of the garden
floor which has two main areas, the
kitchen and the living area. There is a
fireplace in the living area with an inscrip-
tion that reads, “Like runners, passing the
flame of life from one generation to the
next.” Guests can also choose to dine at
the dining area. There is also a small cosy
living room here which has the only TV
in the whole chateau.
The ground floor consists of the for-
mal rooms which are mainly used for
entertaining. The first floor houses three
master bedrooms and a library. All the
bedrooms come with ensuite bathrooms.
Two beds were specially commissioned
by one of the leading wood carvers
in England who had done restoration
work on Windsor Castle. These beds
were based on actual antique beds, one
of which is in the Victoria and Albert
Museum in London and the other in
