TV series) called me in for casting and I
got to play my second character – Abu. It
just snowballed from there and my acting
career took off,” he says.
Playing ‘Abu’ has remained Zar’s’ most
memorable role, more so since it had
opened doors for him as an actor.
His acting
When asked about his acting, he had this
to say,“I see a lot of flaws in myself and
there’s always room to improve. I don’t
think that i am a good enough actor yet.
I feel my acting hasn’t grown, therefore
I need to push the envelope because
everyone is getting smarter and better.
I have to reach the same level or even
ahead of them.”

for ad after ad until he finished school,
after which he decided to try out being
a deejay. “I saw my cousin had a tape at
his house – DJ Battle. I was intrigued, so
I asked, “how do I get into that?” He told
me I needed a teacher. I later met someone
who turned out to be DJ Fuzz. He taught
me the basics of scratching and I started
joining competitions,” Nas shares.
Juggling two jobs, he worked as a DJ as
well as a flight attendant. After two years,
he’d saved up enough money to buy his
own turntable and decided to quit his fly-
ing career. Zar became a personal trainer
by day and a DJ by night. Soon, he started
to get noticed as a DJ and he also started
getting calls for small acting roles fromRed

Who would have thought that attending
a children’s Halloween party would end
up becoming a life-changing experience?
It happened when Nas Muammar Zar and
his brother attended a Halloween party
at a neighbour’s house. As this was their
very first Halloween party, they didn’t
have any costumes. So the two brothers
decided to make their own. They took
their
baju Melayu
, tore off the sleeves,
turned one side into a headband, used
the other as a karate belt, and called
themselves ‘ninjas’.
Their neighbour’s father, a casting
director,was amused by boys’ antics and
gave his name card to Nas and told him to
hand it to his mother. So he did.
