For appetisers, try the
fried squid

The slight garlicky and peppery taste is
just right and compliments the Thai chili
sauce that comes along with the dish.
Another must have appetiser is the
som tam
or papaya seafood salad. This
dish combines the five main tastes of the
local cuisine: sour lime, hot chili, salt,
savory fish sauce and sweetness added
by palm sugar. The ingredients are mixed
and pounded in a mortar. The sweet, sour
and spiciness from the dish causes an
explosion of flavours in your mouth. This
is one dish which is pretty addictive and
can be eaten on its own or even with rice.

if asking for directions,
ask for “lie on” instead of
“lion” as that’s how the locals pronounce
the name of the restaurant.
