Firefly
organised a three-day , two
night media familiarisation programme to
Koh Samui from May 7 to 9 to highlight
the tourism attractions on the island.
The programme allowed journalists to
experience first-hand product offerings
and services offered by Firefly.
The trip is part of Firefly’s marketing
effort to promote Koh Samui as a leisure
destination to Malaysians. During their
stay, participating journalists visited places
of interest such as the Chaweng night mar-
ket, Big Buddha Temple and Na Muang
Waterfall National Park just to name a few.
TourismAuthority of Thailand also hosted
the media dinner at BayWater Resort Koh
Samui where the tourism attractions in
Koh Samui were highlighted.
Firefly offers direct, three times
weekly service between Penang and Koh
Samui and three times weekly service
between Subang and Koh Samui. The
short flight time of two hours and direct
air accessibility to Koh Samui appeals to
honeymooners, wedding planners and
corporate companies looking for a venue
to hold their events. Firefly began servicing
Koh Samui since it began operations out
of Penang in 2007. The airline started
out with two 50-seater Fokker aircrafts,
connecting Penang with Koh Samui,
Phuket, Langkawi, Kota Bharu, and Kuala
Terengganu. Currently, Firefly operates a
fleet of 12 ATR 72-500 and five ATR 72-600
turboprops and until today Penang is still
registered as its home base.
