Day is
a very spec i a l
occas ion when
your mom will be
treated like a queen
simply because
she deserves it. In
between the flowers, cupcakes and fancy
dinner arrangement, deep inside what
your mom truly needs is a little help
around the house and home upgrades
that she cannot afford to do on her own.
These five easy DIY home upgrades won’t
cause a major hole in your pocket and will
definitely put a smile upon her face.
Paint
Of course nothing beats paint. Ask your
mom if she wants to paint one wall as a
feature wall with a different colour which
would make the room pop. If you have a
little more budget, just pick a wallpaper
and put it on. Having said that, you may
also paint over an old bed, chest of drawers
or even tables.
Tips: Be sure to pick the wall which is
more prominent in the house or a room
as a feature wall and not a wall which is
a corner and hardly noticeable.
Hidden wires
Hide unsightly wires especially if your
mom has her television mounted up on
the wall in the living room. Use cable tie
to bunch up all the different wires together
or slip them behind the furniture. Do the
same with other wires and cables around
the house.
Decorate your fridge
Usually the fridge will be decorated with
either pictures or even magnets, why
not opt for something different for your
mom and either spray paint or use a
washi tape (which are available in craft
stores). Design choice is totally up to your
imagination.
Accessorise
With a lot of shops selling glassware at
RM2 to RM5 for one product, go crazy and
pick about three to four pieces of different
shapes and heights for your mom. It’s
best to go for the transparent glassware
with no details or colour so that you can
spray paint it over with the colour of your
choice. Place it on a table, her dresser or
even bedside table.
Another great tip is to get quirky pieces
from flea markets. If you do not frequent
the flea market, get a cake stand and
accessorise your bathroomby placing your
toiletries or kitchen sink needs on top of
it. Get your mom to go against using the
usual bathroom shelves or racks and opt
for something unique and different.
Frame the switches
Inexpensive craft store or shops like Ikea
or Daiso often have photo frames at a
reasonable price but make sure tomeasure
thewidth and length of the switches before
buying those frames. Once you have gotten
that right, paint the frames according
to your mom’s switch colours and use
a heavy duty glue or double-sided tape
and stick it up. This will give a nice frame
around the light switches.
