Weekend in Old-charm Ipoh
T
ravelling
does not
have to be expensive
and time consuming
especially when you are
planning to go domestic.
Domestic travel requires
small budget and very
little planning. The saying ‘been there
done that’ does not apply here because
there are just somany wonderful places to
be explored and all kinds of local charms
waiting to be discovered. The best part
is it can all be possible in one weekend.
If you are planning to put your Euro-
trip on hold to travel local across the
country, Ipoh is a good place to start.
Situated 200km away from the city centre,
Ipoh is accessible via the North-South
Expressway, KTM’s ETS train or direct
flight to the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah
Airport. Some might say that Ipoh is
just a pit-stop between Kuala Lumpur
and Penang but a trip to the capital city
of Perak state will completely change
your mind.
With its breath-taking backdrop of
limestone hills, Ipoh promises an un-
forgettable vacation filled with spiritual
discovery, scrumptious local cuisine, heri-
tage lessons and art appreciation. Give it
one weekend and you will see how easy
it is to fall in love with Ipoh.
Spirit of Nature
Ipoh is well-known for its Buddhist
temples located mostly around the out-
side and leading towards the inside of
limestone hills which surround the city.
Kek Look Tong in Gunung Rapat is one of
themwhich houses a number of Buddhist
figures in the setting of all the stunning
stalactites and stalagmite formations.
Also known as “The Cave Temple of
Bronze Buddhas”, there are altogether
13 Taoist and Buddhist statues cast by
Taiwan’s expert sculptors in Kek
Look Tong which attracts devo-
tees from all around the world. The
atmosphere is calm with yellow lights
