late December last year, Malaysia
faced its worst floods ever. Firefly
Airlines, in partnershipwith The Star
Media Group and the Malaysian Red
Cross Society, spearheaded efforts to
provide rescue and relief flights to
the affected individuals and families.
From Dec 26, all available seats and
cargo space aboard Firefly flights to and
from Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Kuala
Terengganu were given to the cause as
part of its contribution to channelling
emergency assistance to those affected by
the floods in the east coast of Malaysia.

set up three donation centres at three
locations: Subang Skypark in Subang,
Petaling Jaya; Sultan Ismail Petra Airport
in Kota Bahru, Kelantan and the Penang
International Airport.
Additionally, alliances were forgedwith
The Star Media Group, IMARET, Mercy
Malaysia and the Malaysian Red Crescent
Society (MRCS) to consolidate efforts and
form a delivery and support system that
would ensure that the aid reached those
in need in a timely manner.
On Jan 9, all of Firefly’s donation cen-
tres located in Subang Skypark Terminal,
Penang International Airport and Sultan
Ismail Petra Airport ceased operations
at 5pm.
They advised the public to direct and
drop-off donations henceforth to the
Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS)
at MRCS’ offices in the Klang Valley, Johor
Bahru and Penang. The public were also
advised to use ground logistics to transport
donated items directly to the affected areas
as most major roads heading towards Kota
Bahru and Kuala Terengganu had been
open to all traffic thanks to the improved
flood situation.
In total, Firefly had flown 130 tonnes
of cargo out of Subang Skypark Terminal,
