320km drive from
Phnom Penh to Siem
Reap was not an easy one.
Most of the roads were
under construction, so I
went from semi-sealed to
unsealed roads with big
drop-offs for drainage on each side. The
construction resulted in a slow drive, but
I’m sure it will be of absolute convenience
when it’s all finished.
I arrived in Phnom Penh at night and
looked for a place to park the truck, but
it was easier said than done. I eventually
managed to find a place outside an ATM
– it had a couple of guards so I thought it
would be fine.

Home to 2.2 million people, Phnom
Penh is a very busy city and driving can be
challenging, with lots of cars, scooters and
pedestrians coming from every direction.
One of the attractions here is the mighty
Mekong River which flows through the
city and people enjoy walking along it,
especially close to the Royal Palace.
I spent a week in this bustling city
and managed to inflate the balloon twice
– once at a school and another in a park
close to the Royal Palace. The children at
the school were excited to see the balloon
and it was great to have the opportunity
to talk to them in their class. There were
about 60 children in the class who made
postcards for me while I was there. I also
