Quickie with Kate King
FireFlyz takes a break for a quick
chatwith the star of Dolce’s
campaign testimonial.
T
wenty-year-old
Canadian model, Kate
King, is fast becoming
a recognised face in the
Dolce&Gabbana world,
having been featured
in campaigns for the
Designers’ recent ready to wear and
jewellery collections. Her wide, almond-
shaped hazel eyes and noble features
make her the perfect embodiment of
the Sicilian values at the heart of the
fragrance.
Describe Dolce in threewords?
Feminine, floral and sensual.
Do you like towear fragrance?
I love wearing fragrance, I believe it adds
another layer of personality to an outfit.
It is something so personal because scent
has such a strong connection to memory
its ability to capture a place, or a moment
in time, making it deeply special.
Do you have any particular memory
related to a fragrance?
I remember mymother’s perfume and her
spritzing it around every morning as she
prepared for work. It was always the last
thing she did so the scent would linger
as she left. As I sit here now, I can sense
it like she is right next to me although
she is thousands of miles away. I am
also excited to be creating newmemories
around Dolce&Gabbana’s new scent. This
experience has been amazing and one I
will never forget.
Howdo you choose your signature
scent?
I think scent is very personal. For me, I
choose scents which I instantly love, and
which I love even more as it wears on
the skin. I am into interesting, intricate
scents where delicate notes are paired
with deeper ones.
Howdoes Dolce stand out?
I think Dolce is the ideal scent for women
who want something sensual but floral.
For me, it’s such a bright and spirited
scent and I think that is what makes it
so unique. Often the more floral scents
are seen as daytime scents, but Dolce is
a signature scent which can be worn all
the time – from day to night.
Tell us the story behind the campaign?
The advertising campaign is really beauti-
ful – it is set in a stunning garden of white
flowers at the wall of a stately Sicilian
home. I felt so feminine; it was an amaz-
ing experience shooting with Domenico
Dolce. For the TV commercial, we moved
to an amazing lemon grove – it was all
based around the young boy working in
the grove and a young lady who lives
there catching one another’s eye – it’s
very endearing and captures the romance
of young, unrequited love.
Howwas it workingwith Stefano
Gabbana and Domenico Dolce?
Working with Stefano and Domenico was
really incredible. I have walked in many
of their catwalk shows and have been
featured in other ad campaigns – but
working as the face of Dolce really was
something extra special and such an
amazing experience. I admire their vision
and the way in which they completely
bring to life the Dolce&Gabbana women.
I really was very inspired by the whole
process and the way both Designers are
so involved.
Thiswas your first TV shoot for
Dolce&Gabbana, tell us about your
experience.
It was amazing! It was definitely a bit
daunting at first, but the minute I arrived
on set I felt at ease; from the location to
the outfit to the crew, everyone made it
easy for me to feel comfortable.
